Hemident™ is a non-destructive, presumptive field test kit for the presumptive identification of blood. Each test is a compact, disposable tube containing two chemical reagent ampoules. The suspected stain is placed inside the tube and both ampoules are broken in succession. A blue/green reaction indicates blood. A reaction will occur at up to one part per million of blood. Hemident™ will not distinguish between human and animal blood. To determine if blood is human specific, use a test such as Hexagon OBTI on the next page, or submit the blood for a laboratory serology analysis.
*Forensics Source has made a product change to Hemident. For years Hemident came in a stick container with two ampoules stacked on top of each other. Though convenient, the stick posed some problems for the users in the field, mainly in the form of introduction of the cotton swab into the stick. The new form now uses a pouch system similar to our field drug test kits. There are still two ampoules in the kit, but now they are housed in a protective harness to prevent accidental puncture wounds, allow for greater expansion of the Hydrogen Peroxide gas and provide a white background to visualize the color reaction. This change will make your job easier in the field.
