5-MTN is an alternative to Ninhydrin. Prints developed with 5-MTN will develop a stronger purple than Ninhydrin. In addition, prints developed with 5-MTN become strongly fluorescent when post-treated with a zinc-chloride solution. A red-purple color will develop after the zinc treatment and will fluoresce under green light in the 515 to 560nm spectrum.
