Designed for use in the field, the SL-350 is a rugged portable light source designed with ergonomics and the comfort of the user in mind. However, this light source doesn’t sacrifice power and versatility for comfort. Inside lies an extremely powerful 300-watt Xenon bulb, similar to the bulbs used in bulky light sources used in the lab. The Xenon bulb produces a brighter and more pure light than conventional bulbs. Light from Xenon bulbs shines in a more selective spectrum than most other light sources. This results in less background noise and cleaner fluorescence, making evidence easier to identify and photograph. The Xenon bulb has an extremely long life of approximately 3,000 hours of operation.
Using a standard DeWalt™ battery, the user is free to move about the crime scene, searching for latent prints, trace body fluid stains or dust marks without extension cords. The battery has an average life of 25-30 minutes and features a quick recharge time of 15-20 minutes. An additional battery is included, so you never have to worry about not having enough battery life when you’re at a crime scene in the early morning hours. Most importantly, this freedom comes without sacrificing light output or filter options. The SL-350 also features interchangeable filter discs, allowing the user to select wavelengths of light from 360 to 530nm. Light intensity and wavelengths can be adjusted easily at the light source.
An optical light intensifier at the end of the light allows the beam to be widened for a broad search or narrowed for more intense illumination. The optional shape converter can be attached to the end of the beam to produce a wide, rectangular beam, excellent for oblique lighting of dust marks. A side light extension is also available for attaching a fiber-optic light guide to the end of the light.
Four pairs of viewing goggles are included with the light for viewing fluorescing prints and to protect the users eyes. An orange barrier filter is also included for use with a camera when photographing the resultant evidence.
